Hunsur Krishanmurthy

Today is birthday of one of the noted director of Kannada filmdom - Hunsur Krishanmurthy

Krishnamurthy was Born on 9-2-1914 at Hunsur, Mysore district, Karnataka.

His Father Rajaroy and Mother Padmavathamma. As a child Krishnamurthy was influenced by the mythological stories told by her mother.

His was more interested in Plays than in studies. he completed his high school studies in mysore. then he went to mumbai to act in plays.

He joined 'Bala Gandharva Nataka Sabha' and learnt singing and playing musical instruments from Krishna rao. then he went to work in pendarkar and sir nayak's drama companies and learnt the work of all the departments.

He gained recognization as a singer in Mohammed Peer’s drama company 'Chandra kala nataka mandali'. after the death of  Peer saheb, he took the responsibilty of the company.
He worked in Gubbi Veeranna's 'Sri Gubbi Chenna Basaveshawara Swami Nataka Sangha' also.

Began as bit actor at Bombay Talkies; briefly with Bal Gandharva’s theatre troupe, then with Veeranna and Mohammed Peer’s Chandrakala Natak where, with Panthulu, he assisted Simha on Samsara Nauka (1936).

Like Panthulu, from 1958 directed mid-budget morality plays. Claimed that mythological genre commanded better budgets, allowed greater emotional freedom and called for more directorial inventiveness than the socials.

Hunsur Krishanmurthy redefine the Rajkumar persona from his earlier historical's into narratively freer near mythic fantasies ruled by destiny and the individual quest for eternal goodness.

Hunsur Krishanmurthy's Script credits include: Hemareddy Malamma (1945; also act); Krishnaleele (1947); Jagan Mohini (1951); Nala Damayanti (1957); Bangarada Manushya (1972) and Boothayyana Maga Ayyu (1974). Also acted in Muttaide Bhagya (1956).
some of his remarkable works are Satya Harischandra, Babruvahana, Bhaktha Kumbara, Bhaktha Siriyala and others.

His biography was written by Shyama Sundar Kulkarni (1988).

He passed away in 13-01-1989.
