Bangalore Book Festival 2015

Bangalore Book Festival 2015: Bangalore Book Festival is the one event that I love to be at. From 2009, I'm attending this event regularly. but  I was totally frustrated when it was cancelled in 2013 for various reasons. 

This years Bangalore Book Festival 2015, is starting from today October 19 at Triupra Vasini, Palace Grounds. The Festival will end on October 25. The 11-year-old festival, jointly organized by the Bangalore Booksellers and Publishers Association and Indya Comics will be a treat for Book Lovers as they are going to get a opportunity to buy books of different Languages, Genres, Authors at one place.

Speaking to the Media Raghuram BS, Programme Director, Bangalore Book Festival, said that the event is being organized for the past 12 years with the 2013  being an exception. “We expect people of Bangalore to utilize this opportunity to fill up their bookshelves with the new books,’’ Raghuram said.

The book festival will cater to the needs of all types of readers. However used books will not be a part of the festival. “We are not allowing the sale of used books at the book festival.  Many book stalls may offer discounts on new books,’’ he shared.

Last year Bangalore book festival 2014, happened at Elaan Convention Center, Opp Brigade Millennium, Puttenahalli, JP Nagar  from 19.12.2014 to 28.12.2014. 

I attended that event and spoke to stall owners and organizers about the kind of reaction for the book fest. They told me that the reaction was not so good. from 8 days, only 9000 people attended the event, which is very very  low compare to the kind of reaction the Annual Cake Show of 2014 got.

one of the main reason for the poor reaction is the change in venue. Bangalore Book Festival was synonymous with Palace Ground. changing the venue was not such a good idea according to the stall owners. 

According to Nitin Shah, president of the Bangalore Book Sellers’ and Publishers’ Association , “Publishers and booksellers from across the country including Delhi, Ahemdabad , Chennai, Mumbai etc will be participating in the festival. This year, the festival coincides with Dasara festivities and that is why we decided to have cultural evenings.”
 

He also said Kannada Development Authority is also expected to extend subsidy to Kannada book stalls that participate in the fair. “Talks are on with the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce to rope in film stars to visit the festival everyday to draw large number of crowds.”

I am happy that this years Bangalore book festival is back on Place Ground. I hope lot of people will come and make this festival a huge success. Apart from books, there will be an exhibition of award winning cartoons by Karnataka Cartoonists’ Association and photo exhibition by Karnataka Photographers’ Association showcasing award winning pictures of wildlife and nature and lot of other cultural activities were also arranged for the visitors.

Languages: Books in English, Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Marathi and Telugu will be available
