K Balachander Died

K Balachander Died. The Legendry filmmaker K. Balachander passed away today. He was 84.

K.Balachander sir was admitted in Kavery Hospital a few days back following health issues.

populary known as Iyakkunar Sigaram, K.Balachander was a prolific film maker. He contributed to nearly 100 feature films. He directed several serials as well for television.

I have seen very few films of him, like Ethir Neechal, Server Sundaram, Bama Vijayam, Arangetram, Aval oru thodar kathai, Apoorva Raagangal, Manmadha Leelai, Varumayin Niram Sivappu, Ek dhuje ke liye, maro charitra, Sindhu Bairavi, Unnal Mudiyum Thambi, punnagai mannan, Duet etc..

I was impressed by the theme of his films. The above mentioned movies have a kind of themes that might have been new to Tamil cinema when they were released. His films contains strong human emotions, human relationships, family problems, love, lust, music, poverty, unemployment, social reformation and so on.

I was amazed by his female lead characters in his movies. His movies always portrayed strong female characters with very unconventional characters. bold and strong, these female characters are far ahead of their time breaking all those conventions set by the society.

In his movies, he often gave particular mannerism for particular character. that added more charm or individuality to that character. He did wide range of movies with wide range of concepts.

K.B has the reputation of introducing lot of new talents to the film industry. He found and enriched the talents of many actors who became the iconic actors later. be it the Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan, whom KB Sir introduced in him movie 'Arangetram'  or Super star Rajinikanth, whom he introduced in 'Apoorva Raagngal' or his combination with Nagesh, with whom he produced some great movies like Ethir Neechal, Server Sundaram etc.

lot of other actors like Siva Kumar, Major Sundarrajan, Sreekanth, Sowcar Janaki, Jayanthi, Sujatha, Ramesh Aravind, Jaya Sudha, Jaya Pradha, Suhasini, Saritha, Vivek, Prakash Raj and others.

He won numerous awards and recognition for his work. K.Balachander had won nine National Film Awards and multiple Filmfare Awards. He was honored with the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award, in 1987, and is a recipient of the ANR National Award and Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India's highest award in cinema.

Everybody in the film industry from Mani Rathnam to Aamir Khan, respected and loved KB Sir. Kamal Hasan never forget mention about his Guru in each and every Interview or function. His regard for his guru is something that we have to learn from the Ulaga Nayagan. Kamal Hasan had worked in more than 30 film with his mentor.

KB Sir's last movie was Kamal Hasan starrer, yet to be released 'Utthama Villan' which is in post production stage now. few days back, when he was admitted in hospital in serious condition, Kamal Haasan who was busy with the post production work of 'Utthama Villan'in Los Angele's, released a audio message to his Mentor. which goes like this.

“KB sir recently asked me to complete Uttama Villain’ as quickly as possible. He said he’d like to watch it before he goes away. I could understand his eagerness in watching the film. When I heard that he was critical, I quickly rang up his manager,”

Balachander’ s manager informed Kamal Haasan that the auteur was conscious, but hasn’t spoken to anybody in the last few days.

“When I spoke to KB sir, he replied in his faint voice. I informed him that I will visit him as soon as I return after completing the post—production work. I didn’t understand a word of what he spoke for the next few minutes,” he said.

Although Kamal wants to return immediately, he said: “KB sir wouldn’t like it if I leave the job incomplete and come back. My only concern is if I can complete the film, I can show it to him.
“I wish he wakes up and joins us soon.”

Kamal also mentioned that his very first job is to show the film to KB sir as soon as he returns to India, more than that He wants to know what KB sir was saying during their phone conversation.

unfortunately KB Sir his no more to see 'Uttama Villan' and Kamal Haasan his never going to know what was those last words his mentor told him. but I'm sure that the Ulaga Nayagn would have the satisfaction of realizing long time of wish of sharing screen space with his mentor.

K. Balachander will be remembered as one of the best directors India has ever produced. It was end of an golden era.

Eagerly waiting to see him on screen in 'Uttama Villan'.

He will live among us through his movies. His legacy will live on.
RIP KB Sir.
