Bangalore Book Festival 2014

Bangalore Book Festival 2014 : Today morning I attended Bangalore book festival 2014, which is happening at Elaan Convention Center, Opp Brigade Millennium, Puttenahalli, JP Nagar here in Bangalore from 19.12.2014 and is going to end on 28.12.2014.

Last year, Bangalore Book Festival which used to happen at palace ground was canceled due to some problem. I was really disappointed by that. because Bangalore Book Festival is the one event that I love to be at. from 2009, I’m attending this event regularly. but when it was cancelled last year, I was totally frustrated because I was waiting for this event from a year.

So I was searching for information in the internet for this years Bangalore Book Festival. as usual I didn’t get any information regarding the event. so I thought The Event will not happen this year also.
Last month,  when I attended the National Book Fair which took place at BEL Grounds, Jalahalli, I got this information about this years Bangalore book festival which is going to happen at palace grounds from December 19th. so I was happy to know the news and made my mind to attend the event. as usual I was searching the internet for some information about the book fest to make sure that it is going to happen. but I didn’t get any information net.

when I didn’t get any information on the net regarding the book fest, I assumed that, this year also it si not going to happen and I don’t want to waste my time going to palace ground believing that the book fest is happening there as I did last year and came home empty handed with frustration.

two days ago, I was reading a newspaper during my lunch hour in office, and one pamphlet which slid from the papers while I was turning the page, caught my eyes. I took that and read it. it was the pamphlet about Bangalore Book Festival 2014. I was happy about my decision of not going to palace ground for this years book fest because the venue for this years festival was changed from palace ground to Puttenahalli, JP Nagar.

So Today morning I went there. It was happening inside a convention center.  not much of crowd. usually I purchase Tamil books in book festivals, because this is the only opportunity to find other language books of our choice. of course we can buy online, but online we can’t get what we want.
I purchased the following Tamil Books

Vikatan Publication store
1. Kelvikkuri by S. Ramakrishnan
2. Thunai Ezhuthu by S. Ramakrishnan
3. Katha Vilasam by S. Ramakrishnan
4. Marudhanaayagam Khan Saheb by Diwan

Kalachuvadu Publication store
1. Thamizhyagathil adimai murai by Siva Subramaniyan
2. Oru Puliyamarathin Kathai by Sundara Ramaswamy
3. Panbaattu Asaivugal by Tho Paramasivan

I spoke to stall owners and organizers about the kind of reaction for this years book fest. they told me that the reaction was not so good. from 8 days, only 9000 people attended the event, which is very very  low compare to the kind of reaction the Annual Cake Show is getting.

one of the main reason for the poor reaction is the change in venue. Bangalore Book Festival was synonymous with Palace Ground. changing the venue was not such a good idea according to the stall owners. and more main reason for the poor reaction is poor publicity.

very few people knew about Book Festivals. The organizers should promote the event more aggressively so that people can notice that such an event is happening. so that more people can come and buy books, to make the event successful.
