Chennai Super Kings - Champions of CLT20 - 2014

Congrats Chennai Super Kings - The Champions of T20 Champions League 2014.

In the final match between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, that took place at Chinnaswamy stadium, Bangalore, CSK 's skipper M.S.Dhoni won the very crucial toss and elected to field first.

KKR's openers Gambhir and Uthappa gave them the kind of start they wanted. They put 91-run opening partnership. things started to change when left-arm spinner Pawan Negi removed Uthappa and Kallis. Gambhir played a captains innings of 80 runs of 52 balls. but the other batsmen were not able to get to the total that was reckoned.

CSK - Champions CLT20 2014
Pawan Negi bowled really well under pressure, in the big final. His 5 for 22 held KKR back. at the end of their innings KKR manage to put 180 runs on the board, which was  not at all a bad score. but considering CSK's strong batting line up, I felt they were 10 or 15 runs short.

Super Kings started the chase with little blow. they lost Dwayne Smith in the first over and it was all Raina after that. B.McCullum supported Raina. McCullum is vulnerable to spin. we have seen him throwing up his wicket against spinnerS easily. but he kept his cool. rotated the strike. gave chance to , who is a very good player against the spinners.

Raina showed his class. with the trade mark Raina shots, with perfect timing and footwork, he manhandled Kuldeep and Chawla. He decorated the CSK's title win with his extraordinary century 109 of 62 balls, that includes 8 dazzling six's and 6 boundaries.

what I liked about Raina's innings is the kind of maturity he showed in the big final. He understood his role, took the responsibility, stayed till the end to make sure that his team become the Champions.

we have seen in the past, after getting good start he used to throw away his wicked try to do something that wasn't required. but he is playing with more maturity these days. that will be good for himself and for the Indian team in the future.

Dhoni who promoted himself in the batting order, hit the winning runs with the much expected six to win their second Champions League title.

with this win  Chennai Super Kings put down the burden they were carrying from past few years, of not winning the title, even though they were in the finals.

so the summary of the final is

Chennai Super Kings 185 for 2 (Raina 109*, McCullum 39) beat Kolkata Knight Riders 180 for 6 (Gambhir 80, Uthappa 39, Negi 5-22) by eight wickets to win the title of CLT20 2014.

Congrats CSK. Well done Raina and Negi. Good effort KKR.
