Drishyam - ദൃശ്യം - Visuals can be deceiving

watched,  much talked about Malayalam movie in recent times, Mohan Lal's latest sensation 'Drishyam',  at Roclkine Cinemas, today morning.

Drishyam stars Mohan Lal, Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Baby Ester, Kalabhavan Shajon, Asha Sarath and others. written and directed by Jeethu Joseph. music by Anil Johnson, Vinu Thomas.

The film starts as a simple family entertainer and ends up as a gripping thriller.

George Kutty [Mohan Lal] a cable TV service provider in his village, a simple and good person who lives with his wife Rani [Meena] and two daughters Anju [Ansiba Hassan] and Anu[Baby Ester].
George Kutty spends his time in his cable office watching movies and goes to the teashop regularly, where he grows enmity with a police man Sahadevan[Kalabhavan Shajon].

George Kutty's elder daughter goes to a nature camp arranged in her school.  All hell breaks loose after her return from the camp.

Varun, son of a IG Geeta Prabhakar (Asha Sharath), who was also in the camp that Anju attended, meets Anju and blackmails her by showing the video of Anju, that he had made during  the camp.
in the events that follows, Varun got killed,  accidentally by Anju, in the presences of her mother.
in the absence of George kutty, Rani and Anju buries the body of Varun, which was witnessed by Anu, younger daughter of Geroge Kutty.

after learning the crime committed by his family, George Kutty pledges to protect his family from law.
what follows is a thrilling game between police and George Kutty's family and how George Kutty manages to tackle the problem.

Jeethu Joseph's script and direction is  the highlight of the movie complemented by  brilliant  performance by actors and music. as usual Mohan Lal, steals the show. Drishyam is  not only getting the critical acclaim but it is dominating the box office also.

now lot of buzz is going on about the remake of Drishyam in other languages. it is speculated that Ulaganayagan kamal may feature in Tamil remake.

Drishyam  is not only considered as one of the best films of the year 2013, it is also regarded as the best-made thriller in Malayalam ever since the 1982 film Yavanika (directed by K. G. George) starring Mamooty and bharath Gopi.

Drishyam is the malayalam movie I enjoyed in recent times after Traffic. I was bit worried that Malaylam cinema is also loosing its direction. but they kept coming back with something brilliant and making sure that someone will try to stick to the right  direction.

It is important that great actors like Mohan Lal, should accept and support this kind of films by neglecting their stardom. Mohan Lal and Mamootty have always done some extraordinary movies without  bothering about their stardom. that's what makes them, the two great actors. and I hope they will continue to do that.
