Remembering C.N.Anna Durai and Sir M. Visvesvaraya

Today is the Birth day of two great person's of India namely C.N.Anna Durai popularly called  Anna was a former Chief minister of Tamil nadu and Sir M.Visvesvaraya the Great Engineer and Diwan of Mysore.

C.N.Anna Durai

Annadurai was born on 15 September 1909 in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. He studied at Pachaiyappa's High School. In 1934, he graduated with a B.A. degree (Hons) from Pachaiyappa's College in Chennai. followed that up with a M.A degree in Economics and Politics from the same college

Annadurai's interest in politics made him join the Justice party in 1935. Annadurai participated in the first Anti Hindi imposition conference held in Kanchipuram on 27 February 1938. 

Annadurai launched his own party with his party fragment, along with E. V. K. Sampath due to the difference of opinion with Periyar. The new party was named Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

He has published several novels, short storiesand plays with political themes. some of his scripts were later adopted to movies like Nalla Thambi and Velaikkari.

Annadurai became Cheif minister in 1967. He was the first member of a Dravidian party to hold that post and was also the first non-Congress leader to form a majority government in independent India.

It was Annadurai's government that renamed the Madras State to Tamil Nadu. Annadurai legalized Self-respect marriages for the first time in the country. It was during the period of his Chief Ministership that the Second World Tamil Conference was conducted on a grand scale on 3 January 1968.

Annadurai died due to cancer on 3 February 1969. His funeral had the highest number of attendees until then, as registered with The Guinness Book of Records.

Sir M.Visvesvaraya

Sir M. Visvesvaraya was born to Srinivasa Sastry and Venkachamma at Muddenahalli village, Chikkaballapur District of present day Karnataka on September 15, 1860.

Sir M. Visvesvaraya attended primary school at Chikkaballapur and high school at Bangalore. He earned his B.A. from the Madras University in 1881 and later studied civil engineering at the College of Science, Pune.

Sir M. Visvesvaraya designed a flood protection system to protect the city of Hyderabad from floods. He was also instrumental in developing a system to protect Vishakapatnam port from sea erosion.

Sir M. V. supervised the construction of the KRS dam across the Cauvery River from concept to inauguration. During his period of service with the Government of Mysore state, he was responsible for the founding of, the Mysore Soap Factory, the Mysore Iron & Steel Works in Bhadravathi, the Sri Jayachamarajendra Polytechnic Institute, the Bangalore Agricultural University, the State Bank of Mysore.

In 1915, while he was the Diwan of Mysore, Visvesvaraya was made Knight Commander of the Order of the Indian Empire by the British for his myriad contributions to the public good. Sir M. Visvesvaraya was given the nation's highest honor, the Bharat Ratna, in 1955.

Sir M. Visvesvaraya was died on April 14, 1962 (aged 101). Every year, 15 September is celebrated as the Engineer's Day in India in his memory.

These two great legends life is inspiration to all of us and we have to learn from their lives. we have to remember their contribution to the nation.
