Nakhakshathangal - നഖക്ഷതങ്ങള്‍

I always have regard to Malayalam cinema. I have watched some great Malayalam movies with strong  content, more ethnic and simple stories and characters.

I was stunned by the movies of Ramu Kariat, Adoor Gopalakrishanan, M.T.V, Bharathan, Padmarajan, I. V. Sasi, Fazil, Hariharan,  Priyadarshan, Sibi Malayil, Prem nazir, Madhu, Satyan, Nedumudi venu, Antony, Adoor Bhasi, Mamooty, Mohanlal, Jayaram, Dileep, Sukumari, K. P. A. C. Lalitha, Santha Devi, Aranmula Ponnamma, Sheela, Urvashi, Meera Jasmine other talented artists from malayalm industry.

Few days back I watched  Nakhakshathangal -  നഖക്ഷതങ്ങള്‍. This 1986 Malayalam film was directed by Hariharan, written by M. T. Vasudevan Nair and Bombay Ravi scored the music.

The story is about Ramu (Vineeth), a 16 year old teenager who is staying with his annoying uncle, who gets angry and often treats Ramu like a slave. In a pilgrimage trip, Ramu meets 15 year old Gouri (Monisha), who has come with her grandmother. 

Both shares few tender talks, Ramu expresses his interest in pursuing his studies and his interest in poetry and Gouri talks about her village. after sharing some romantic moments together they depart without a clue that they will meet again. 

Back home Ramu continue to do the works told by his uncle reluctantly.  when he express his desire to study, his uncle refuses his idea, stating that he can't afford it.

When Ramu's neighbor, a rich guy in his pursuit for music want's  to go to the neighboring village to learn music. so he asks Ramu to accompany him. Ramu seizes the opportunity. As fate would have it, Ramu and Gouri meet again. 

Ramu does the chores for the rich guy and with his help he joins the college as well. one day that guy informs Ramu, that he his no more interested in music, that he wants to go back to his native. that shatters Ramus plans. but Gowri arranges a work for Ramu in the Lawyer's house that she is working.

Good conduct and intelligence of Ramu gets noticed and he is asked by a lawyer to stay in the house, where Gauri is a maid. The lawyer's deaf and dumb daughter Lakshmi (Saleena) gets attracted to Ramu. 

Lawyer's ill mother insist his son to arrange the wedding of his grand daughter, so that she can die happily. she suggests Ramu would be a good choice for her grand daughter. when the lawyer discuss this with Ramu he refuses it. 

The triangle love story ends in a tragic climax.

Monisha

Vineeth, Monisha and  Saleena's performance were good.

This is the debut film of lead actress Monisha. She won the distinguished National Film Award for Best Actress for her role, that made her the first actress to get a National Award for her debut film and the youngest actress to achieve the feat.

It is very unfortunate that, the talented actress passed away in a car accident at the age of 21. 

Nakhakshathangal is a good movie. it brings back some of our adolescent age memories.
