Jonathan Livingston Seagull - Richard Bach

Few days back I read Richard Bach's most celebrated work 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull' a story.
perhaps The most celebrated inspirational fable of our time.

It was first published in 1970 as "Jonathan Livingston Seagull a story." By the end of 1972, over a million copies were in print, Reader's Digest had published a condensed version, and the book reached the top of the New York Times Best Seller list where it remained for 38 weeks.
In 1972 and 1973 the book topped the Publishers Weekly list of bestselling novels in the United States.
The Irish actor Richard Harris won a Grammy in 1973 for the Audiobook LP Jonathan Livingston Seagull.

It is small book but creates a big impact. I borrowed the following lines from the books cover page which gives the clear picture about the book.

For most seagulls, life consists simply of eating and surviving. Flying is just a means of finding food. However, Jonathan Livingston Seagull is no ordinary bird. For him, flying is life itself. against the conventions of seagull society, he seeks to find a higher purpose and become the best at doing what he loves.

This is a fable about the importance of making the most of our lives, even if our goals run contrary to the norms of our flock, tribe or neighborhood. Through the metaphor of flight, Jonathan's story shows us that, if we follow our dreams, we can too can soar.

Jonathan Livingston Seagull is a must read. I felt like flying when I read it. the story is very inspiring and gives a new insight and point of view towards life.

The story is all about following our dreams and doing what we love to do. no matter what others thinks about what we are doing. it is all about following our heart and living the way that we want to live. having been said that, I have to admit that it is not as simple as it sounds. we  have to choose the difficult path and face all the hurdles, frustrations, indignation's, failures. that is how it is.

Jonathan Livingston Seagull inspires us to take this path with peril and realize our dreams. lets fly...
