Mystic River - Film - English - 2003
Watched Mystic River after a long time. when I saw this movie for the first time few years back, the only reason I had was Clint Eastwood. I am a great fan of Clint Eastwood. but after watching this movie I started liking Sean Penn's acting also. and ofcourse the Shwashank Redemption actor Tim Robbins performance is as brilliant as Shwashank Redemption.
Mystic River is a 2003 murder mystery film directed, co-produced and scored by Clint Eastwood, starring Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Kevin Bacon, Laurence Fishburne, Marcia Gay Harden, Laura Linney and Emmy Rossum. The film was written by Brian Helgeland, based on Dennis Lehane's novel of the same name.
The film begins with three boys Jimmy Markum, Sean Devine, and Dave Boyle, playing hockey in a Boston street in 1975. Dave is kidnapped by two men, being sexually abused, but escapes from them four days later. after the incident Dave avoids his friends.
Twenty-five years later. Jimmy (Sean Penn) is running a neighborhood store. Jimmy's daughter Katie (Rossum) is secretly dating Brendan Harris, a boy Jimmy despises. while Dave (Tim Robbins) still haunted by his abduction lives with his wife and son.

One day Katie goes out for the night with her girlfriends and Dave sees her at a local bar. That night, Katie is murdered, and Dave comes home with an injured hand and blood on his clothes, tells his wife Celeste (Harden)that he fought off a mugger and possibly killed him.
Sean (Kevin Bacon), now a detective with the Massachusetts State Police, investigates Katie's murder.
what follows is a murder investigation, which keeps us guessing who is the real murderer of Katie.
Sean and his partner, Sergeant Whitey Powers (Fishburne), track down leads. initially they suspect Katies boy friend Brendan Harris. then their focus shifts to Dave.
Sean discovers that the gun used to kill Katie was also used in a liquor store robbery during the 1980s by "Just Ray" Harris, the father of Katie's boyfriend.
meanwhile Dave's wife suspects Dave, because of strange behavior, eventually believes that Dave Killed Katie and tells Jimmy about this. Jimmy kills Dave to take revenge.
but the climax reveals the true killer's of Katie. Sean reveals what happen to Katie and asks Jimmy about missing Dave. but Jimmy thanks Sean for finding the killers of his daughter. but Sean suspects that Jimmy might have killed Dave and Keeps an eye on him.
Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Kevin Bacon justifies their roles with brilliant performances. lot of question arises in our mind about the character and events.but Clint Eastwood's effort and the brilliant performance by the actors and screenplay makes the movie a must watch.
Sean Penn won Best Actor and Tim Robbins won Best Supporting Actor, making Mystic River the first film to win both awards since Ben-Hur in 1959.
