RC Sakthi passes away : RC Sakthi, famous Tamil film director and close
friend of actor Kamal Haasan passed away today at a private hospital in
Chennai. He was 76.

Sakthi was born in Puzhithikulam, Paramakkudi, Ramanathapuram district
of Tamil Nadu. Sakthi started his career as a theater artist. He floated
a theatre troupe with his friends and went on to act in a few plays
before moving to cinema. He started his career as an assistant to theater artist Subbhu Arumugam, and worked with him on several plays.
Later, he became an assistant director for the Tamil film "Porsilai"
(1969) and "Annai Velankanni" (1970)
Two
years later, he launched actor, filmmaker Kamal Haasan as a hero in his
Tamil directorial debut “Unarchigal”, a controversial film about
sexually transmitted diseases.
which was released after four years due
to censor board issues. The film had Srividya, Kanchana and Major
Sundarrajan in important roles.
He
went on to direct some critically acclaimed films such as “Manidharil
Ithanai Nirangala” starring Kamal Haasan, “Dharma Yuddham” starring
Rajnikanth and “Amma Pillai”.
His last directorial venture was in
1993 - the Tamil film “Pathini Penna" which fetched him two State awards
for best film and best dialogue writer. In his long career, RC Sakthi
had directed 17 films.
He directed a short film "Ainthu Rojakkal" in 2013.
Speaking to media, Kamal Haasan told,
"He
was part of my family. I've lost a great friend. It started as a
friendship and went on to become a familial relationship. I wouldn't say
one can't find such a friend. I wish everybody should have such a
friend,"
